This September ANF Architects is celebrating Art & Architecture with a collective exhibit featuring four local artists who are trained as architects.
Matthew Lee- "The Magic Door at Idlewild" 9 x 12 Oil.
Idlewild and Rhodes College are made from the same stone quarry. I love the robustness of this old door, it tells of a different time and place, who knows what you will find beyond it?
Matthew Lee- "Cloudland Canyon Overlook, Ga" 24 x 36 in. oil. This was created "en plein air"- over several days, at the same time each day.
Art & Architecture are natural companions. In fact, many artists find inspiration in architectural designs, while architects are inspired by fine art. It comes as no surprise that many trained architects are responsible for the creation of fine art today.
Matthew Lee- "Going to Market- Chartres, France" 10 x 16 in.
FEATURED ARTISTS:
Chapel of the Cross, Madison, MS. Plein Air painting in progress. 11 x 14 in. oil. Matthew Lee.

These are the kids of one of my painter friends' trying to brave the cold water. They were nice enough to stay there a few minutes so I could try to capture their resemblance.

This exhibit of artwork features a collection of oil paintings I created mostly on location or “en plein air” alongside all types of water bodies from seas to creeks. The intent of these paintings created on location is always to immerse myself in the subject, no pun intended! Well actually, I have been in the water before or after painting it a few times, an exhilarating experience at waterfalls! After deciding on a composition, I try to reflect deeply about what I am painting, with a listening eye in a sense, then I translate it back to you in paint. Another title for this exhibit might easily have been “Drinking Beauty”, for that is essentially what I am doing.
