First Friday Art Walk- Baldwyn, MS
Matthew Lee in front of painting of falls in Arkansas
I’m pleased to announce I’ll be joining Alley Cat Gallery, in Baldwyn, MS, and this is the welcoming event, or meet and greet. Alley Cat gallery has numerous plein air painters like myself, mostly from North Mississippi. Baldwyn is about a 2 hour drive from Memphis, for my Memphis friends.
Here’s a little about me for those who haven’t seen my work:
“Matthew Lee is a landscape painter who enjoys working directly from life, whether he is creating a “plein air” landscape in the hills of Provence, or in Memphis, TN where he currently lives. His paintings are often about creating an immediate connection with nature, capturing the light, forms, and feeling of a place. Many people say they feel a sense of peace from his work, or they feel like they could be standing right there in the painting!
Lee was born in Paris, France to missionary parents from Mississippi. He spent his childhood mostly in France and Germany, then returned to Mississippi for university, and to reconnect with his Mississippi family. The rich culture and artistic heritage of France were deeply imprinted on his life. In addition to being a painter, he is a licensed architect.”
Painting near Haw’s Creek, AR
The painting above is near Haw’s Creek in the Ozark National Forest. It’s 36x48 inches. I hiked up a creek bed to get to this spot, carrying a large easel, and the canvas sometimes over my head. It took me a few days to create it, and I left it at night under a big boulder, out of the rain. A few spiders enjoyed taking a look though!
I’ll be displaying a selection of my landscapes. Here are two below that I’ve never shown before and I’m framing specifically for this show:
Morning Mist on a Horse Pasture in Franklin, TN. 24x36 Oil on canvas.
Magnolia Shade- 10x16 Inches- Oil on linen
