BIO:

Matthew Lee currently lives in Memphis, TN. He was born in Paris France to American missionary parents who originated in Mississippi.  He spent his childhood years mostly in France with occasional visits to Mississippi.  He attended Mississippi State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture.  His childhood years in Paris provided many opportunities to see great works of art. He recognized as a child that his great passion was drawing and painting. After 22 years working as a full time architect, he currently paints full time, and practices architecture still on the side.

I am primarily a landscape painter that works on location or “en plein air”.  I also do some portrait painting, and am a licensed architect.

When I paint out in nature, I get immersed in the sounds, smells, and the changes in light and atmosphere.  I take in all these elements and try to capture that moment of time in a painting.

In a world filled with distractions,  my paintings can provide a place of peace, or a window of imagination, a resting place in a busy world.  Most of all I aim for beauty in everything I design and create.
