INTRODUCTION TO LANDSCAPE PAINTING IN OILS
When: November 9, 16, 30, December 7
Where: Yurt at Woodland Discovery Playground
This course will cover some of the essential concepts, techniques, and tools needed to begin the adventure of landscape painting. Students will be painting on location, or in “plein air”. Students will practice several painting exercises, working in a limited palette of colors in oils. Students will complete 1-2 finished paintings by the end of the course. The course is open to all levels, but some experience in oils is helpful. Students furnish materials from a supply list provided.
The course instructor is Matthew Lee, a professional, local landscape painter.
Price: $165 (including $65 deposit to hold position in the course)
More Info: Students may rent easels for $20.
Please invite all your friends to come out and sketch tomorrow morning at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens from 10-11AM. I'm the guest instructor this weekend. Anyone can attend, no experience necessary. Bring a sketchbook and pencils for inside the museum, or any media you like for painting in the garden.
I have 7 paintings currently on display at Memphis Jewish Home. Stop by anytime during their normal business hours to visit the Gomez Auditorium Art Gallery, except Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. when Shabbat Services occur. Runs July-September.
Sailing Boats- Jardin De Luxembourg
28 x 42 in- Oil on Linen
I spend 12 years in France as a child. I have fond memories of watching the toy sailboats on this pond. They were for rent from a rolling cart. I made up the sailboats and little girl in this scene. This is a typical day in Paris with grayish skies.
Architect Artists: A Collective Exhibit
This September ANF Architects is celebrating Art & Architecture with a collective exhibit featuring four local artists who are trained as architects.
Art & Architecture are natural companions. In fact, many artists find inspiration in architectural designs, while architects are inspired by fine art. It comes as no surprise that many trained architects are responsible for the creation of fine art today.

This exhibit of artwork features a collection of oil paintings I created mostly on location or “en plein air” alongside all types of water bodies from seas to creeks. The intent of these paintings created on location is always to immerse myself in the subject, no pun intended! Well actually, I have been in the water before or after painting it a few times, an exhilarating experience at waterfalls! After deciding on a composition, I try to reflect deeply about what I am painting, with a listening eye in a sense, then I translate it back to you in paint. Another title for this exhibit might easily have been “Drinking Beauty”, for that is essentially what I am doing.
